Vault of Silence XXV is a sculptural object — a cube-like, freestanding light box that explores the complex relationship between the human body and the spaces it inhabits, with particular attention to environments that impose physical limitations.
Composed of recycled materials such as wooden planks and electrical cable, the work consists of a wooden cage-like structure covered with thick transparent industrial plastic bearing printed compositions. Through monotype, engraving, and image transfer combined with LED neon Flex, the PVC surface carries printed traces of deformed fragments of the human body, while an enclosed sculptural form is hidden within the structure. This concealed form is conceived as a mutable entity — evolving from a compressed body inside the structure into something that gradually becomes the structure itself. Eventually, the form releases itself and extends into the surroundings, interacting with the environment and through its own energy becomes one with it.
The distinction between body, material and space becomes blurred – is the artwork shaped by the environment or the environment is shaped by the artwork ? This project is inspired by post-industrial sites and place responsiveness, it symbolises a remnant of a disrupted environment and focuses on body hybridity, challenging boundaries between human/animal/machine and reconfiguring spatial relations in posthuman contexts. The work reflects on systems that can simultaneously destroy and transform, often operating unnoticed while shaping new realities, relationships, and futures…
This work expresses another chapter in my longstanding fascination with protective, underground environments and their growing relevance in our present time.
